We zijn er vrij zeker van dat elke artiest die op het podium bij Left of the Dial staat een prima muzieksmaak heeft. Sommigen hebben zelfs een bijzonder dansbare smaak. Degenen die echt als geen ander weten op welke plaatjes jullie graag zouden willen dansen, kruipen op donderdagavond achter de draaitafels van Rotown. De line-up van Bands in the Booth maken we later bekend, maar we garanderen je dat het sowieso de ideale afsluiting van je eerste festivalavond wordt!

All artists who play at Left of the Dial have a pretty good taste in music. Some of them even have a very danceable taste. And the bandmembers who are most likely to play the exact songs you want to dance to, will get into the DJ booth in Rotown on Thursday night.
The line-up of Bands in the Booth will be announced a few weeks before the festival, but we promise it will be a great way to end your first festival night!

Hoe kun je nou ‘t beste het mistige gevoel van de eerste festivaldag kwijtraken? Met samenzang in een echte kerk natuurlijk! En op Left of the Dial dat hoeven echt geen psalmen te zijn. Ons motto is namelijk ‘if you’re post-drunk, sing some post-punk’, dus op vrijdag beginnen we de dag met het gezamenlijk zingen van wat grote punkhits. Of hits uit een ander genre, dat hangt een beetje van ieders stemming af.
Talent is totaal niet nodig, heel veel enthousiasme is genoeg. En natuurlijk hebben we wat cadeautjes voor de meest gepassioneerde deelnemers!

Our motto is ‘if you’re post-drunk, sing some post-punk’, so on Friday, we’ll start our day in Arminius by singing some punk anthems. Or bangers in other musical genres, depending on everybody’s mood.
No skills required, just your unbridled enthusiasm. And of course we’ll have some gifts for the most passionate singers!

Speel mee in Arminius met de giga-grote interactieve indie-muziek-pub-quiz! Maak je geen zorgen, je hoeft totaal geen Leo Blokhuis te zijn om aan deze quiz mee te doen, het belangrijkste doel is om een gezellige uurtje door te brengen met je medefestivalgangers.
Met andere woorden: winnen is niet belangrijk, probeer de vragen – met een hoog entertainmentgehalte! – te beantwoorden en warm meteen even je vermoeide festivalspieren op. Georganiseerd door TONYZ, dezelfde club die vorig jaar de cursus moshpitten verzorgde, dus je weet dat het sowieso leuk wordt!

Waarschijnlijk denk je er niet vaak over na of een zaal of een festival eigenlijk wel goed rolstoeltoegankelijk is. Laat staan dat je zelf hebt ervaren hoe het is om naar een concert te gaan als je niet kunt lopen. Logisch, maar het kan natuurlijk helemaal geen kwaad om je wereldbeeld een keer wat te verbreden. Onze goede vriend Micha, een groot muziekliefhebber die zijn hele leven in een rolstoel zit, neemt je graag mee naar een nabijgelegen concertzaal om je te laten ondervinden welke hindernissen hij op een gemiddelde avond moet nemen voor iets dat wij zo vanzelfsprekend vinden: naar een band gaan kijken. Eerdere deelnemers noemde het een ‘respect afdwingende ervaring’, maar daar hoef je niet naar te luisteren, stap gewoon in een van de rolstoelen die voor je klaarstaan en find out for yourself!

"a humbling wheelchair experience"
It’s easy to assume that a venue or festival is wheelchair accessible, but do you actually know what it’s like to go to a show if you’re not able to walk? One of our good friends, Micha, a huge music lover who’s been in a wheelchair his whole life will gladly take you on a tour to a neighbouring venue to give you a first-hand experience of all the hurdles he has to take for something we usually take for granted: seeing a show. Previous participants called it a ‘humbling experience’, but hop into one of the wheelchairs and find out for yourself!

Het festival begint officieel met de ietwat bizarre Grand Opening op donderdag in Arminius. Om 18.30 uur gaan de deuren open en om 18.45 uur is de officiële openingsceremonie. Je kunt er alleen bij zijn als je je polsbandje al hebt, dus zorg dat je die ruim op tijd hebt opgehaald. Voor de Grand Opening geldt wel vol = vol, dus als je met ons wil proosten met een gratis mini-cocktail, moet je zorgen dat je vooraan in de rij staat!
We hebben eerder iets geschreven over het idee achter The Grand Opening, wel in het Engels en we hadden even geen tijd om het te vertalen, maar als je dat geen probleem vindt, lees vooral verder!

Then we realised that was the worst idea ever. You don’t want an amazing band having to follow up an amazing intro track. You need contrast.
The next day, our DJs played the Birdie Song on repeat right before the band started. Folks were clearly getting more and more irritated, and when the band finally began playing the crowd was so relieved that they started cheering as if the Beatles had been reincarnated.
Contrast works.
A couple of weeks ago, we started planning for the Grand Opening of Left of the Dial.
We’ve been to official openings before, and usually the director of the festival gives a lengthy speech to explain how proud they are and then some poor musician plays a few songs to an inattentive crowd of networking executives.
Granted, that would be a huge contrast to the rest of the festival, but not the kind we want.
We won’t reveal exactly what’s going to happen at the Grand Opening, but what we can say:
You’re all welcome (you need a wristband though)
We have a limited capacity (so don’t be late)
It’s going to be the shortest opening ceremony ever (blink and you’ll miss it)
There will be contrast
If you’ll join us for the Grand Opening you’ll also have the best seat in the house to see the first band in Arminius. Keep an eye on your inbox, Left of the Dial ticketholders will receive all needed info before the festival.

Wij van Left of the Dial laten mensen niet graag met lege handen naar huis gaan. Daarom zijn er dit jaar ook weer allerlei souvenirs te verzamelen.
GRATIS DINGEN
Schippershoedje We hebben er niet genoeg voor iedereen, maar als je met Bands on a Boat meevaart en je vraagt er heel vriendelijk om, dan krijg jij wellicht een origineel Left of the Dial-schippershoedje.
Gouden medaille Goud moet je verdienen! Als je dapper genoeg bent om het podium op te klimmen in onze Karaoke Bar en daar een gezellig liedje zingt, geven wij je een gouden medaille. Ook vals zingen belonen we met goud!
Placemat Als je naar Dine Like a Star komt (op een tijd naar keuze dineren op dezelfde plek als de artiesten!), kun je je bord neerzetten op een van de speciale Dine Like a Star 2024 placemats.
Sticker plakken = shotje pakken Op de vrijdagnacht van Left of the Dial drukken we de reset-knop even in tijdens Sticker Night – The Palate Cleanser. Plak een sticker naar keuze op en als de artiest op jouw sticker wordt gedraaid, krijg je een Left of the Dial-shotje!
Moshpit tattoos Kom op zaterdagmiddag naar Tonyz Rock Etiquette Session in Arminius voor een opfriscursus hoe-werkt-een-moshpit-ook-alweer en bemachtig daar een van de spciale moshpit plaktattoos.
Make me a Rotterdammer Voor de mensen die op de vrijdagmiddag naar de ultrakorte inburgeringscursus Rotterdammer-worden komen, ligt er een typsich Rotterdams kapsel klaar.
Sticker plakken = shotje pakken Dé Left of the Dial souvenir is natuurlijk een foto van de photo booth in Rotown! Hoe later het uur, hoe beter de foto…
Dancing Queen De mensen die op de donderdag al feesten tot ze er bij neervallen tijdens de afterparty met 110% INDIE, kunnen gekroond worden tot Left of the Dial Dancing Queen, met een heuse Left of the Dial kroon!
Dansende Beren Speciaal voor de allerfeestelijkste bezoekers, is er tijdens het dagprogramma op zaterdagmiddag een al vroeg op de dag een afterparty in Rotown met de dj’s van ons favoriete Belgische muziekblog Dansende Beren. En ook daar horen natuurlijk souvenirs bij!
Farewell Gift Mensen die het op de zaterdag tot de afterparty volhouden, kunnen rekenen op een klein afscheidscadeautje dat hun zondagochtend geheid gaat redden.

Skipper Hat
We don’t have enough for everyone, but if you sail along with Bands on a Boat and ask very kindly, you might get an original Left of the Dial skipper hat.
Gold Medal You have to earn gold! If you're brave enough to climb onto the stage in our Karaoke Bar and sing a fun song, we’ll give you a gold medal. Even singing off-key will be rewarded with gold.

On Friday night of Left of the Dial, we hit the reset button during Sticker Night - The Palate Cleanser. Put on a sticker of your choice, and if the artist on your sticker gets played, you'll get a Left of the Dial shot!

Come to Tonyz Rock Etiquette Session on Saturday afternoon at Arminius for a refresher course on how a mosh pit works, and grab one of the special mosh pit temporary tattoos there!

Een boottrip van een uur door de Rotterdamse havens met alleen maar leuke mensen, een open bar én twee Left of the Dial-bands, dat is Bands on a Boat. De speciale boot maakt vier tripjes, twee op vrijdag en twee op zaterdag, beide dagen vertrekt de boot om 13.00 uur en 15.00 uur. Kaarten kosten €19,50 (inclusief bier/fris/wijn!) Wees ruim op tijd aanwezig, want de boot wacht op niemand!
Alleen geldig in combinatie met een Left of the Dial-passe-partout.

OPSTAPPLAATS Adres: Boompjes 750 Dat is op loopafstand van (metro)station Blaak, ongeveer ter hoogte het oude Waterfront. Dit is ook het eindpunt van de boottocht.
ID Om het barpersoneel zo snel mogelijk te kunnen laten werken, moet je een stempel hebben om alcohol te kunnen bestellen. Deze delen we bij het instappen uit, maar uiteraard alleen aan mensen die met een geldig ID kunnen aantonen dat ze 18+ zijn. Zorg dus dat je je ID klaar hebt! GARDEROBE Er is een garderobe waar je je jas op kan hangen, deze is niet bewaakt.
ROKEN Je mag alleen buiten op het dek roken. Er zijn geen sigaretten verkrijgbaar op de boot.
BESCHERM JE OREN Bij hoge geluidsdrukken is het slim om oordoppen te gebruiken. Zo hoor je goed de muziek, kun je nog steeds communiceren met je medebezoekers én bescherm je ook nog je gehoor. Er zijn geen oordoppen op de boot aanwezig, dus zorg dat je ze meeneemt!
A one-hour boat trip through the Rotterdam harbors for friendly people only, an open bar and two Left of the Dial bands, that is Bands on a Boat. The special boat makes four trips, two on Friday and two on Saturday, both days the boat departs at 1 pm and 3 pm. Be sure to be on time, the boat waits for no one!

This is within walking distance of Blaak (metro) station, This is also the end point of the boat trip.
ID In order for the bar staff to work as quickly as possible, you must have a stamp to order alcohol. We hand these out when boarding, but of course only to people who can prove that they are 18+ with a valid ID. So make sure you have your ID ready!
WARDROBE
There is a cloakroom where you can hang your coat, it is not guarded.
SMOKING
You are only allowed to smoke outside on the deck. There are no cigarettes available on the boat.
PROTECT YOUR EARS
At high sound pressures it is smart to use earplugs. This way you can hear the music well, you can still communicate with your fellow visitors and you also protect your hearing. There are no earplugs on the boat, so make sure you bring them!
