Vandaag delen we graag heel kort drie dingen waar we blij van worden:

LIVE-OPNAMES VAN ELLIS·D 
Eerder dit jaar kwam Left of the Dial-vriend ELLiS·D terug naar Rotterdam voor een concert op het lichtschip V11. Dit geweldige concert is opgenomen en wordt op 4 september als EP uitgebracht. Tot onze grote trots is Left of the Dial “co-releaser” van deze plaat, zoals dat klaarblijkelijk wordt genoemd. (We hebben even overwogen die term te vertalen naar “mede-uitbrenger” maar dat klinkt eigenlijk nog vreemder…) Hoe dan ook, als je de EP alvast wil bestellen kan dat bijvoorbeeld bij onze vrienden van Plato. MUZIEK OM BLIJ VAN TE WORDEN 
Het is best een klus om de line-up van Left of the Dial te leren kennen, dus we proberen altijd manieren te verzinnen om het zo makkelijk mogelijk te maken. Als je ons op social media volgt, heb je wellicht gezien dat we deze week zoveel mogelijk bands uitlichten met behulp van hun videoclips. Dat vonden we eigenlijk best een makkelijke manier om meer artiesten te leren kennen, dus we hebben al die posts voor de liefhebbers achterelkaar geplakt en op YouTube gezet. Oké, je bent wel bijna een half uur kwijt om het hele filmpje te bekijken en dat is best lang, maar het is nog steeds de snelste manier om alvast 70 artiesten te leren kennen!  

TICKETUPDATE 
Na onze laatste nieuwsbrief met de update over alle locaties is het redelijk rap gegaan en op dit moment hebben we nog 122 tickets beschikbaar voor de huidige prijs. Als die op zijn, gaan we door naar het laatste prijsniveau. Dat de prijs nog een keer omhoog gaat, vinden we niet leuk (wel noodzakelijk helaas), maar wij zijn uiteraard wél heel erg blij dat we zoveel van jullie in oktober gaan zien! 

We zijn binnenkort weer bij jullie terug met (hopelijk) de laatste line-up-aankondiging en als alles goed gaat, komt snel daarna ook het blokkenschema. Maar heb geduld met ons, het is een enorme puzzel om al die bands in de juiste blokjes te krijgen, dus misschien gaat dat wat langer duren. Ach ja, binnenkort, snel… het is ook allemaal relatief natuurlijk, maar we doen in elk geval ons best!

Just a quick update on 3 things we’re incredibly happy about:

ELLIS·D LIVE RECORDING 
Earlier this year, Left of the Dial alumni ELLiS·D returned to Rotterdam for a show on the lightship V11. That amazing show was recorded and will be released as an EP on the 4^th of September. We couldn’t be more proud to be the co-releasers of this amazing project. If you’d like to pre-order the EP, you have two options:

MUSIC MAKES US HAPPY 
We’re always trying to find ways to make the Left of the Dial lineup easier to digest. If you follow us on social media, you might have noticed that this week, we’re highlighting as many artists as possible using their videos. Those posts turned out to be a pretty good way to familiarise yourself with a lot of artists in a short period of time, so we combined all those post in one YouTube video. When we uploaded the video, we realised that it will take you almost half an hour to watch it, which is a lot, but it’s still the fastest way to get to know 70 artists!

TICKET UPDATE 
After last week’s venue update, ticket sales went pretty well and we’re down to the last 122 tickets at the current rate. Once they’re gone we’ll move to the final price tier. Obviously, we’re not excited about the higher ticket prices (that’s more of a necessary evil unfortunately…) but it does make us extremely happy that we’ll see so many of you in Rotterdam in October!

We’ll be back soon for the (hopefully) final lineup announcement and if all goes well, we’ll be able to release the festival’s timetable shortly after that. But please bear with us, making sure that over 150 bands all get the perfect slots is quite a puzzle, so it might take a bit longer than we’d all like. Oh well, soon, shortly… it’s all relative anyway right? Just know that we’re trying our very best!

Laten we beginnen met het (voor ons in elk geval) heel erg fijne nieuws dat alle 26 podia voor Left of the Dial 2026 nu eindelijk compleet zijn!

TICKETUPDATE
Nu alle 26 podia bekend zijn, weten we eindelijk ook de definitieve capaciteit voor Left of the Dial 2026 en op zit moment zijn er nog exact 665 driedagen-tickets over. Zodra we bij de laatste 350 tickets zijn aangekomen, gaat de prijs nog één keer omhoog, wat dus logischerwijs betekent dat er nu slechts 315 tickets voor de huidige prijs beschikbaar zijn.   

Dan nu een veel te lange uitleg over de zalen en waarom het zo lang heeft geduurd voor alles rond was: 

160K -> BARRIO
De allerlaatste zaal die er bij is gekomen, is een oude bekende. De plek is al een paar jaar onderdeel van het festival onder de naam 160K. Dit keer duurde het even voor hun deelname kon worden bevestigd, doordat er net een nieuwe eigenaar is die meteen ook voor een andere naam heeft gekozen: de locatie heet nu: Barrio. Door de jaren heen hebben we er heel wat legendarische shows gezien, dus we zijn heel erg blij dat ze er weer bij zijn!

(NIET) NOG EEN ZAAL
Eigenlijk wilden we heel erg graag nóg een plek gebruiken. Dat was geen bestaande popzaal, maar een oude bioscoop midden in het centrum. Het pand staat al jaren leeg en dat is toch behoorlijk zonde van zo’n centrale locatie, als je het ons vraagt. Het zou een prachtige locatie voor Left of the Dial zijn geweest, maar tegelijkertijd hoopten we dat het wellicht iets in werking zou zetten als we konden laten zien wat een mooie plek het is voor een poppodium. Je weet maar nooit tenslotte. 
We zijn er maanden mee bezig geweest en het leek ook echt te gaan lukken. Tot een paar dagen geleden waren we er zelfs 99% zeker van dat het door zou gaan. Helaas kwam toen ineens het bericht dat we toch niet welkom waren. Een beslissing van hogerhand werd het genoemd en er was niks meer aan te veranderen. 

GENOEG IS GENOEG
In eerste instantie waren we daar lichtelijk door uit het veld geslagen. We willen altijd meer en groter en het liefst moet alles ook net een beetje anders. Maar we wilden vooral weer een stukje van Rotterdam laten zien waar jullie wellicht minder of zelfs helemaal niet bekend mee waren. Zelfs als we daarvoor een zaal zonder stromend water moesten oplappen. 

Maar daarna bedachten we ons dat we natuurlijk al ontzettend veel mooie plekken hebben die dit jaar onderdeel van Left of the Dial zijn. We hebben een zaal met uitzicht op de Erasmusbrug, drie kerken, gelukkig ook wat traditionele poppodia, nachtclubs, een salsaschool en nog veel meer moois, misschien is dat wel even genoeg. We hebben nog duizend andere dingen te doen voor oktober, dus laten we het onszelf voor deze keer niet nog moeilijker maken en laten we gewoon blij zijn met wat we al hebben. 

Dat gezegd hebbende, we voelen we ons nog steeds een mini-beetje teleurgesteld, maar dat gaat ons niet tegenhouden het beste festival ooit te organiseren. Want wij zijn nog steeds vast van plan er alles aan te doen om ervoor te zorgen dat Left of the Dial 2026 de beste editie tot nu toe wordt. 

En als jullie ons daarbij helpen door aanwezig te zijn in oktober, jullie onverdeelde aandacht aan de artiesten te geven en proberen de Drunk Uncle-heid tot een minimum te beperken, dan komt het helemaal goed!

Let's start with the great news that, as of today, all 26 venues for Left of the Dial 2026 are confirmed. Which, in all honesty, feels like a huge weight has been lifted off our shoulders!

TICKET UPDATE
With the confirmation of all 26 stages, we finally know the exact capacity of Left of the Dial 2026. At this very moment, we have 665 general admission tickets left. Once we reach the last 350 tickets, we'll move to the final price tier, which obviously means that right now there are only 315 tickets available at the current price.

And now, a far-too-long explanation about the venues and why it took so long to get everything set up:

160K -> BARRIO
The last venue we've added barely needs an introduction. It has been part of the festival for several years as 160K. It just took a little longer to confirm this time because it recently changed owners, and with the new ownership came a new name: Barrio. We've seen quite a few legendary shows there over the years, so we're extremely happy to have them on board again!

(NOT) ANOTHER VENUE
We had our eye on one more venue. Or rather, not a proper music venue at all, but an old cinema right in the middle of the city centre. The building had been sitting vacant for years, which feels quite outrageous for such a central location, if you ask us. We figured that if we could show its potential as a music venue during Left of the Dial, maybe it would set some wheels in motion.

For months we tried. We'll spare you the details, but let's just say we got close. For a long time, we were 99% sure it was going to happen. Unfortunately, a couple of days ago, the owners of the building suddenly decided we weren't welcome after all. Some corporate decision. Nothing we can do about it.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
At first, we felt a little defeated. We always have a tendency to want more, go bigger and do things differently. But mostly, we really wanted to show you a side of Rotterdam you may not have seen before. Even if it meant fixing up a venue without running water.

But then we started thinking: we already have so many great venues. We even have one with a view of the Erasmus Bridge. We'll have three churches, proper music venues, nightclubs, a salsa school and whatnot. Maybe that's enough. We still have tons of other stuff to do, so for once, let's not complicate things and just be happy with what we've got.

That being said, we still can’t help but feel that we could’ve done better, but we won't let that stand in the way of the greatest festival ever. Because yes, if it's up to us, this is still going to be the best edition of Left of the Dial so far. We'll do everything we can to make that happen. All we need from you is to show up in October, give the artists your undivided attention, and keep the Drunk Uncle-ness to a minimum. Let’s go!

LAATSTE TICKETS (TWEE MOGELIJKE SCENARIO’S) 
De afgelopen dagen hebben meerdere mensen gevraagd om een ticketupdate en het eerlijke antwoord is dat we op dit moment niet precies weten hoeveel tickets er nog zijn. We wachten nog steeds (!) op de bevestiging van de laatste zalen en pas dan weten we de totale capaciteit van Left of the Dial 2026. We vinden het zelf ook gênant lang duren en we hopen heel erg dat we binnen afzienbare tijd kunnen uitleggen waarom dat is. Hoe dan ook, er zijn twee scenario’s mogelijk:

• Scenario 1: de laatste zalen bevestigen en dan hebben we op dit moment nog 14% van alle beschikbare tickets over;
• Scenario 2: we kunnen die zalen toch niet gebruiken en dan is op dit moment al 94,6% van alle tickets verkocht. 

Als je al tickets hebt gekocht, maakt dat voor jou allemaal niks uit natuurlijk, maar voor de ticketloze mensen: Left of the Dial 2026 is een beetje bijna, of heel erg bijna uitverkocht! 

LAATSTE WOENSDAG-TICKETS 
Inmiddels heeft iedereen die op de wachtlijst stond voor de Left of the Dial Woensdag de kans gekregen om tickets te bestellen. Daarvan zijn er nog een handjevol over. Er zijn ook al wat tickets teruggekomen van mensen die bij nader inzien toch niet al op woensdag aanwezig kunnen zijn, dus als je nog een ticket zoekt, kun je die bestellen in de add-ons-shop. 

Let op, je hebt twee verschillende tickets nodig voor de Left of the Dial Woensdag:

• een regulier festivalticket (voor de donderdag, vrijdag en zaterdag)
• een extra Wednesday-ticket

A TWO-SCENARIO TICKET UPDATE 
People have been asking us for a ticket update, and the truthful answer is that, right now, we don't know exactly how many tickets are still available. We're still (!) waiting for the final venues to confirm, and that will determine the total capacity of Left of the Dial 2026. It's taking embarrassingly long, we know, but unfortunately our venue-fate is in the hands of others for at least a few more days. We hope to explain the situation soon. Either way, it boils down to two scenarios:

• Scenario 1: The remaining venues confirm, and we still have about 14% of all tickets left.
• Scenario 2: We can't use those venues, in which case about 94.6% of all tickets have already been sold.

If you've already bought tickets for Left of the Dial 2026, this makes absolutely no difference to you, of course. But for those of you who are still ticketless: we're either a little close or VERY close to selling out. Just so you know.

FINAL WEDNESDAY TICKETS 
Last week, all ticketholders who had signed up for the waitlist got the opportunity to order tickets for the Left of the Dial Wednesday. The few remaining tickets are now available in the add-ons ticket shop.

Please note that you need 2 tickets for the Left of the Dial Wednesday:

• a regular festival ticket (purchase here)
• a additional Wednesday ticket (order for free here)

WOENSDSAG-TICKETS
De woensdagavond was oorspronkelijk bedacht als een klein extraatje met een paar bands in twee zalen. Dat is om verschillende redenen een beetje anders geworden en nu zal The Left of the Dial Wednesday plaatsvinden in Rotown, Uniek, Stalles (fka Centraal) en in de prachtige Arminius. Dat betekent ook dat er binnenkort weer kaarten voor de woensdag beschikbaar zullen zijn. 

Die tickets zijn nog steeds gratis, maar er zijn wel twee dingen vereist:

• Je hebt een regulier festivalticket nodig;
• Je moet je hebben aangemeld voor de wachtlijst op onze website.  

WACHTLIJST
Als je een festivalticket hebt en je wil graag ook een ticket voor de woensdag bemachtigen, ga dan naar deze pagina op de website, klik op Wednesday Ticket en er verschijnt een veld waarin je je emailadres kun achterlaten. 

Doe dit alsjeblieft voor vrijdag 10 juli 10.00 uur. Een uur later versturen we code waarmee je direct een gratis Wednesday Ticket kunt bestellen. Als er na 12.00 nog tickets beschikbaar zijn, komen die ook vrij voor de kaarthouders die niet op de wachtlijst staan. 

PLANNEN GEWIJZIGD? 
Had je al kaarten voor de woensdag, maar heb je er nu Lee Towers niet op de line-up staat eigenlijk geen zin meer in? Laat het ons alsjeblieft weten, dan gaan we iemand anders op de wachtlijst blij maken met jouw ticket(s). 

TICKETS SAMENGEVAT
Dus voor de zekerheid nog één keer:

• Reguliere tickets zijn geldig op donderdag, vrijdag en zaterdag;
• Zo lang de voorraad strekt, zijn er voor de mensen met een regulier ticket speciale woensdag-tickets te bestellen. Meld je aan voor de wachtlijst en je krijgt vrijdag de code om een ticket te kopen. (Nou ja, te “kopen” voor €0 dus, maar je moet nog steeds wel ook een regulier ticket hebben.) 

NOG KORTER SAMENGEVAT

• 21 oktober: alleen toegang met een regulier festivalticket EN een Wednesday Ticket
• 22/23/24 oktober: toegang met een regulier festivalticket (1 polsbandje/3 dagen/27 podia)

WEDNESDAY TICKETS
The Left of the Dial Wednesday was supposed to be a small two venue-event, but due to various reasons the event will now take place in Rotown, Uniek, Stalles (fka Centraal) and the glorious Arminius. This venue upgrade also means that more tickets will be available soon.

Those tickets are still free, but there are two requirements:

• You need to have a Left of the Dial 2026 ticket
• You need to sign up for the waitlist, which you can find on our website

WAITLIST
If you have a Left of the Dial festival ticket and you would like to add a Wednesday ticket, please go our website, click on Wednesday ticket and sign up for the waitlist.

Please sign up before Friday, July 10 – 10.00h. An hour later, we’ll send out a purchase code you can use directly to order your free Wednesday ticket. At noon, all remaining tickets (if there are any!) will be made available for ticketholders who haven’t signed up for the waitlist.

A CHANGE OF MIND
If you’ve ordered Wednesday tickets but you can’t make it after all, please let us know so we can pass them on to someone on the waitlist.

TICKETS IN SHORT
So just to be sure:

• Regular Left of the Dial tickets are valid on Thursday, Friday and Saturday
• For holders of those regular tickets we have a limited supply of (free) tickets for the Left of the Dial Wednesday
• Please sign up for the waitlist if you want to be notified when the Wednesday tickets go on sale. (On sale for €0 that is, but again: you also need a regular festival ticket)

TO PUT IT EVEN SHORTER:
Left of the Dial 2026

• 21 October: access only with a festival ticket + Wednesday ticket
• 22/23/24 October: access only with a festival ticket (1 wristband/3 days/27 stages)

Vandaag voegen we 32 artiesten toe aan de Left of the Dial 2026 line-up waarmee we op een totaal komen van 107 namen. En we zijn er nog niet, er komen er nog zo’n 50 bij! 
 
Onze familie wordt maar groter er groter en rijkt nu zelfs tot Zuid-Afrika waar we een geweldige klassieke punkband vonden. Als je dat niet stevig genoeg vindt, hebben we ook nog de hardste band uit Japan klaarstaan. Als je het juist liever wat rustiger hebt, kun je terecht bij een van de toegevoegde Australische acts. Ja, of bij een van de Nederlandse, Amerikaanse, Zweedse, Britse, Canadese of Ierse acts die ook allemaal Rotterdam komen. Allemaal net een beetje anders, maar wij vinden ze allemaal even goed. VERANDERING IN DE LINE-UP 
Helaas kan het Amerikaanse Flooding niet meer naar Rotterdam komen in oktober, dus die staat niet meer op de line-up. 
 
(GEEN) ZALEN- EN TICKETUPDATE 
We zouden je heel graag meer willen vertellen over de laatste twee zalen die we in oktober willen gaan gebruiken, maar we zijn nog steeds aan het wachten tot alles rond is. De capaciteit van die twee laatste zalen gaat bepalend zijn voor hoeveel kaarten we nog kunnen verkopen. Wellicht zijn dat er straks nog maar een paar, maar het kan ook zijn dat er nog een paar honderd hebben te gaan. We hebben nu nog geen idee, maar zodra we het weten, weten jullie het ook!

MEEST GESTELDE VRAAG VAN DE WEEK 
Het is niet voor iedereen helemaal duidelijk wanneer Left of the Dial begint, dus voor de zekerheid: voor de meeste mensen begint het festival op donderdag 22 oktober. Alleen als je een extra ticket hebt voor de woensdag, ben je al op 21 oktober welkom. Bij twijfel, kijk op je ticket.

Our ever growing family extends itself now to South Africa where we found a very cool and very straight-forward punk rock band. Not loud enough for you? Don’t worry, we managed to get you the loudest band from Japan. If you prefer it a little easier on the ears, please check the freshly added Australian artists, or one of the Dutch, American, Swedish, British, Canadian, or Irish acts we’re going to welcome in Rotterdam. The capacity of those last two venues will determine how many tickets we can sell, so we might be close to selling out, but we might just as well have a few hundred to go. There seems to be some confusion about when Left of the Dial starts, so just to be sure: for the majority of people Left of the Dial starts on Thursday October 22. Only if you have an additional ticket for the Wednesday you’re already welcome on October 21. Still not sure? Just check the date on your ticket(s).

Voor de oplettende kijker: het klopt dat Black Nylon niet op de overzichtsposter staat, want zij bevestigden hun komst pas een paar uur geleden en toen was onze vormgever al naar huis. They only confirmed a few hours ago and by then our graphic designer had already gone home for the day. Things never go as planned, at least not for us and we still wanted to let you know that Black Nylon will be joining us in October, so we included them anyway.

Dit jaar begint Left of the Dial al op woensdag! 
 
Daar zal heus niet iedereen zin in hebben en er is ook maar beperkt plek, dus als je drie dagen Left of the Dial meer dan genoeg vindt, stop gerust met lezen. Er verandert voor jou helemaal niks en je bent gewoon op donderdag 22 oktober welkom bij onze ticketbalie. 
 
Heb je in principe wel zin om woensdagavond al aan het festival te beginnen? Lees dan vooral nog even verder voor de belangrijkste informatie die je nodig hebt om te beslissen of je erbij wil zijn:
 
LOCAL OPENING SHOWCASE 
Op woensdagavond zijn alleen Rotown en Bar3 open en er spelen alleen Rotterdamse bands.   
 
HELEMAAL GRATIS, WEL EEN TICKET NODIG 
De avond is gratis voor iedereen die een Left of the Dial-ticket heeft, maar omdat er maar beperkt plek is, moet je wel een extra (gratis) ticket bestellen. Op het mailadres waarmee je je Left of the Dial-ticket hebt besteld, ontvang je op in mei een speciale code waarmee je dit kunt doen. 
 
Voor de zekerheid: je moet dus wel al een Left of the Dial 2026-ticket hebben, heb je die nog niet bestel ‘m dan hier
 
EN DAN NU DE VEEL TE LANGE UITLEG 
Als je aan deze informatie al genoeg had om te beslissen of je er bij bent of niet, kun je vanaf hier stoppen met lezen en je mist geen essentiële informatie. Maar voor iedereen die wil weten wáárom we dit doen, nog wat nadere toelichting:
 
Waarom alleen Rotterdamse bands?
We willen het publiek tijdens Left of the Dial graag zoveel mogelijk kennis laten maken met artiesten die ze normaal gesproken niet zo snel zouden kunnen zien. In het begin kwamen onze bezoekers vooral uit Rotterdam en omgeving, dus was het logischer om bands te programmeren die van verder weg kwamen. Als die bezoekers wilden, zouden ze meeste Rotterdamse bands immers regelmatig in de buurt kunnen zien spelen. Daarom hebben we het aantal lokale acts altijd tot een minimum beperkt. 
 
Wat is er dan veranderd? 
Inmiddels komt de helft van de bezoekers van (veel) verder weg. Bovendien komen er ook steeds meer buitenlandse muziekprofessionals die artiesten kunnen helpen aan meer shows, een platencontract, of andere dingen die handig zijn voor een muziekcarrière. Al die mensen krijgen veel minder vaak de kans om Rotterdamse artiesten te zien. En misschien wat laat, maar uiteindelijk kwamen we tot de conclusie dat dat toch best zonde is. We zijn een Rotterdams festival en we zijn trots op de artiesten in de stad, dus daar mogen we best wat meer ons best voor doen, vonden we. 
 
Waarom op de woensdag?
De afgelopen jaren waren veel van de buitenlandse kaartkopers al op woensdag in Rotterdam, dus het leek ons handig om deze avond te kiezen. We kunnen natuurlijk ook gewoon meer Rotterdamse artiesten op de andere dagen programmeren, maar dan moeten ze opboksen tegen alle buitenlandse bands en we gunnen onze lokale vrienden dit keer juist wat meer aandacht. 
 
Is dat de enige reden?
Niet helemaal. Die buitenlandse muziekprofessionals waar we het over hadden, gaan over het algemeen liever op woensdag naar bands kijken dan op zaterdag. Gewoon, omdat ze voor hun werk al ontzettend veel op pad zijn en zij het fijn vinden om af en toe ook eens een weekend thuis te zijn. Wij willen het ze zo makkelijk mogelijk maken om Rotterdamse artiesten te zien, dus dat is ook een goeie reden om al op woensdag te beginnen. 
 
Rotown en Bar3 zijn niet heel groot, gaat dat goed komen?
Het blijft natuurlijk een experiment. We hebben geen idee of jullie hierop zitten te wachten, of juist totaal niet. Misschien blijkt Rotown veel te klein te zijn, misschien staan we straks alleen met het Left of the Dial-team voor het podium, het kan allebei. Daarom vragen we iedereen echt alléén een ticket te bestellen als je er zeker bij kunt zijn en het vooral ook te laten weten als dat ticket toch niet gebruikt gaat worden. En als het ondanks al onze goeie bedoelingen toch geen succes blijkt te zijn, wordt het vanzelf donderdag. Dan gaat Left of the Dial op de normale manier van start en zijn we het zo vergeten!

We realise that not everyone will have the energy for an extra festival night, and also, capacity will be limited, so if three days of Left of the Dial already sounds like more than enough to you, feel free to stop reading right here. Nothing changes for you at all, and you can simply report to our ticket desk as usual on Thursday, October 22.

If your initial thought is that the idea of kicking off the festival on Wednesday evening sounds pretty good, then read on for the most important information to help you decide whether you’d like to actually join us:

LOCAL OPENING SHOWCASE 
On Wednesday evening only Rotown and Bar3 will be open, and the lineup will consist entirely of Rotterdam-based bands.

COMPLETELY FREE, BUT YOU’LL NEED A TICKET 
The evening is free for everyone who already has a Left of the Dial ticket. However, because capacity is limited, you’ll still need to reserve an additional (free) ticket. In May, the email address you used to purchase your Left of the Dial ticket will receive a special code that allows you to claim your ticket.

Just to be sure: to order your Wednesday ticket you need to have a Left of the Dial 2026 ticket, if you haven’t already you can purchase one here

AND NOW FOR THE MUCH TOO LONG EXPLANATION 
If the information above is already enough for you to decide whether you’ll join us or not, you can safely stop reading here and you won’t miss anything essential. But for anyone curious about why we’re doing this, please allow us to explain:

Why only Rotterdam bands?
At Left of the Dial, we try to introduce audiences to artists they might not normally get the chance to see live. At first, most of our ticketholders came from Rotterdam and the surrounding area, so we tried to give them loads of foreign bands to get to know. After all, they could catch most local bands in venues nearby throughout the year. So, it seemed like a perfectly good reason to keep those local artists to a minimum.

So what changed? 
Nowadays, more and more ticketholders come from abroad, including a wide variety of music professionals who can open doors to more shows, record deals, and all the other things that help build a career in music. All those people rarely get the chance to see Rotterdam artists, so to put it a bit dramatic: we’re basically denying our own local community the chances we offer bands from further away. We may not be too fond of chauvinism, but this is kind of the other end of the spectrum.

Why Wednesday?
Now, we could simply have started putting more Rotterdam artists on the lineup, but we felt that, to make up for lost time, we should give our local stars some extra spotlight this year.

Is that the only reason to add the Wednesday?
No, that’s not the only reason we decided to add the Wednesday specifically. Like we said, the festival attracts quite a few music professionals, and many of them prefer to check out bands on a Wednesday rather than on a Saturday. Simply because their jobs already have them travelling and attending shows constantly, and every now and then it’s nice to spend a weekend at home. So that’s another good motivation to start a day earlier.

Rotown and Bar3 aren’t exactly huge, will that work?
Well, all said and done, it’s an experiment. We have no idea yet whether adding a local focused Wednesday is something you’ll be excited about. Maybe Rotown will be at capacity in no time, or maybe the only people there will be the Left of the Dial team. Both are very possible. But there’s only one way to find out, so we figured we’re just going to give it a try this year!

Donderdagochtend kiezen we 25 mensen uit die later die dag hun tegoedbon via de mail ontvangen en daarmee kun je tracks gaan kopen. GOED VERTROUWEN 
We kunnen natuurlijk totaal niet controleren of de tegoedbonnen daadwerkelijk worden uitgegeven aan bands die op Left of the Dial staan, maar elke keer blijkt weer dat onze kaartkopers de liefste mensen van de wereld zijn, dus we hebben er alle vertrouwen in dat de tegoedbonnen worden gebruikt om Left of the Dial-artiesten te steunen.
 
BANDCAMP FRIDAY 
Vrijdag (6 maart) is het ook nog eens “Bandcamp Friday” en dat betekent kort door de bocht dat al het geld dat die dag binnenkomt, direct naar de artiesten gaat en daarom hopen we dat – of je nu een tegoedbon wint of niet – je die dag sowieso je (toekomstig) favoriete artiest steunt door iets te kopen via Bandcamp! 

We’ve bought some Bandcamp gift cards with a value of €10 each to give away, so that we’re feeding two birds with one scone: you’ll get a chance to get to know the lineup, and the artists make some extra money!
