My Purse (NL)

"a multivocal celebration of playful punk"

For fans of: Devo / the Homesick / The Cool Greenhouse

Bio provided by artist:
My Purse makes angular post-punk with a riot-grrrl edge and is decidedly ‘anti-sauce’: a counter-movement to the wall of noise so often associated with (post-)punk. My Purse, formerly known as ‘Saus’ (Sauce), shows the seams: interlocking guitars, dominant basslines and multi-voiced vocal melodies.

Band members Una Jongenelis, Keetje Voogd, Igor Jongenelis and Sara Elzinga are known from Amsterdam outfits like Yodel Queen, Cardigan Inn and Hondenfokker. The band’s female perspective comes through clearly in the lyrics, which move through fragments of experience and situation, laced with absurdism and ambiguity.

Debut single ‘I Smell’ already got a stamp of approval from KEXP, the Seattle radio station. Una on the track: “How close can someone get? And how close do you get yourself? What’s yours and what’s the other person’s?” Follow-up ‘Objects’ is a stalker anthem about the one who lingers in the shadows and leaves objects at your door. One thing is clear: My Purse isn’t going anywhere for now.
