French-born and London-based, ultra caro – formerly known as caro♡ – is an artist, producer, and vocalist known for her collaboration with powerhouse cult label PC music, founded by visionary producer A. G. Cook. After her time as the lead singer of Planet 1999, PC Music’s trailblazing neo-shoegaze band, ultra caro launched her solo project, crafting dreamy, experimental soundscapes that blend melancholic synth-pop with haunting beauty.
Caro’s self-produced works merge ethereal textures with introspective storytelling, earning her recognition as one of the most innovative voices in the post-hyperpop realm. Her music draws on the landscapes the French Riviera, youthful fantasies, and the delicate balance between optimism and longing. Songs like ‘hide me here’ and ‘Moonrise’ highlight her signature style, ranging from intimate instrumentals to stripped-back productions. A respected figure in the creative community, ultra caro has collaborated with artists such as A.G. Cook, Charli XCX, Hannah Diamond, Erika de Casier or daine.
These musical collaborations, along with her distinctive visual direction and dedication to authenticity, have cemented her status as a vital force in today’s experimental pop community. With her unique vision and ties to PC Music’s artistry-first ethos, Caro continues to push the boundaries of experimental pop, crafting music that is both arrestingly beautiful and a testament to the innovation of female producers redefining the genre.
This spring, she unveils her new double-single ‘counting sheep’ / ‘my love would never fade’, the first under her new alias ultra caro, and definitely marks a new chapter. The main single ‘counting sheep’ is accompanied by a video directed by Amal Guichard (Oklou, Dream Ivory) and Vickie Chérie (The Pirouettes).
These melancholy tracks reconnect with Caro’s earlier days, as she evolved in shoegaze scenes before signing to PC Music, notably supporting Slowdive on their European tour in 2018 with her previous band Dead Sea. After spending recent years releasing music on the experimental pop powerhouse, Caro developed a keen sense of sound design, genre experimentation, and innovative production techniques. By blending shoegaze’s classic dreaminess with trap-inspired bass lines and modern sonic textures, Caro crafts a sound that is uniquely her own— one that balances the emotional depth of shoegaze with the forward-thinking, boundary-pushing spirit of experimental pop, all the while echoing the ethereal sonic realm of cloud rap.
