Take a step back

Omertà (UK)

"garage-inflected art-punk or: 'ugly noise for ugly people'"

For fans of: Amyl and The Sniffers / Soft Play / Mission of Burma

Bio provided by artist:
Have you ever felt too safe at a gig? Omertà have the answer. They are a new, fresh, explosive noise punk 6-piece from the depths of South London and ‘A noxious breath of fresh air in a grey landscape of overwrought earnestness and performative sentimentality.’- So Young

Garnering infamy among London’s underground live music circuit for their viscerally intense live shows, the absurd on-stage antics and the booming, thrashing noise coming from their instruments, they seem to be on a path to fry the brains of as many audiences as they can get their pernicious hands on.

Their unique brand of Stimulant Fuelled, erratic synth punk is drawing eyes and pricking up ears for a reason, through their set you can hear influences drawn far and wide, and put together in a staggeringly original way. The crass lyrics and uncaring attitude evoke that of Country Teasers, the guitars simultaneously draw comparisons to the scrapy, car-car crash sounding tones of Big Black, as well as the funky, percussive guitars of 70s disco, and synthesisers which, at times, sound like they’ve been plucked straight out of a flash game. The mix is truly hard to describe, and by all means and conventions in music, should never work, but by God it does.

Overall, their genre bending, explosive feast of maximalist noise-rock is one that deserves to be seen, you may hear their music and love it, but you will not be able to fully comprehend the extent of the live show’s insanity until you find yourself plucked in the middle of that sweaty mosh-pit, covered in bruises, and watching it in person.
