October and The Eyes (NZ/UK)

"a disturbing collage of goth, glam-rock, wave, and more"

Bio provided by artist:
October And The Eyes is the one-woman-band musical pursuit of New Zealand born, London based musician October.

Considering her small town roots, October crafts a sound so dauntless, dark and dazzlingly maximalist it’s hard to believe her humble upbringing in the rural valleys of Marlborough’s wine country.

As a producer, October firmly steers the sonic wheel, describing her musical style as “Collage-Rock” (not the be confused with college rock). Somewhat unorthodox in her approach, she copy-paste’s lo-fi home recordings into hi-fi studio live sessions, feeds digital synths into guitar pedals, acoustic guitars through computerised sound effects, and frankensteins it all together with samples and electronic one-hits.

Pulling inspiration from a disparate array of influences such and folk, post-punk, bossa nova, psych, flamenco and grunge, she’ll extract snippets of ideas from each, glueing them together to create a musicalcollage.

The end result is equal parts nostalgia-drenched as it is future forward. Shaped by the likes of Bauhaus, Bowie, Siouxsie Sioux and Suicide, she squeezes her influences through the gauze of modernity and electronics, thus creating something entirely of her own.

With glowing reviews from Clash, DIY Mag, and Dazed and features in I-D, Notion, and American Songwriter, October and The Eyes are getting harder to ignore.

As the London underground’s worst kept secret, October and The Eyes have managed to sell out every headline show of theirs to date, appearing at iconic London venues such as The Lexington, The Victoria, Old Blue Last and The 100 Club. October’s live performances can only be described as controlled chaos with Gigwise simply stating October to be “the female Iggy Pop”.
It’s no wonder then why she’s been hand picked by Yves Tumor, The Horrors, Iceage and The Black Lips as UK tour support, commanding venues of up to 3000 people (The Troxy, Heaven, Islington Assembly) with confidence and ease.

Watching a live performance from October and The Eyes is like witnessing a wild predator stalking their natural habitat. Often plunging herself into the crowd and singing directly into bewildered faces, she harbours a natural power and prowess that incites both intrigue and fear into unsuspecting audiences.

With one foot in the music scene, her other is firmly planted on catwalks and fashion industry photoshoots, serving as muse for buzzy London based brand KNWLS and appearing front row and behind DJ decks at fashion week’s exclusive Ann Demeulemeester show celebrations. She’s also one of the faces for their latest campaign – a fitting gig considering the brand’s historic association with powerful female musicians such as PJ Harvey and Patti Smith.
