Het Britse psychedelische collectief Mandrake Handshake durven we nu al een bescheiden sensatie te noemen. Een concert van dit tienkoppige (!) gezelschap is alsof je een orgasme in slow motion beleeft. Songtitels als ‘Hypersonic Super Asterid’, ‘Gonkulator’ en ‘Mandragora’ spreken eigenlijk voor zich: een simpele geest kan deze oase aan klankkleuren, overgangen, stijlen en sferen amper bevatten. Van Afrojazz tot shoegaze, Mandrake Handshake absorbeert alles in een kleurrijke lappendeken.

Not to get too ahead of ourselves, but we’re confident in calling British psychedelic collective Mandrake Handshake a modest sensation. A gig by this ten-member (!) band is like experiencing an orgasm in slow motion. Song titles such as “Hypersonic Super Asterid”, “Gonkulator” and “Mandragora” speak for themselves: no mortal soul, except perhaps one Carl Sagan, can encompass this oasis of tonalities, transitions, styles and atmospheres. From Afro jazz to shoegaze, Mandrake Handshake absorbs everything in their phantasmagoric patchwork.
