The brainchild of midlands-born, brighton-based poet, painter, filmmaker and musician Jamie Broughton, the ever-prolific big long sun have released their second album in 12 months this summer. (notwithstanding the clutch of EPs before, and in between). The follow-up – and intended ‘sister album’ to October debut big long sun:speaking – whatever (whatever) remains every bit the consummate ‘bedroom record’ as its predecessor, with Jamie writing records, mixing and mastering everything himself at his home studio ‘Boudoir’.
And as with everything big long sun do, the number one aesthetic principle behind it all, as Keanu Reeves might have it, is ‘Speed’. Preferring to lay down tracks in the creative heat of the moment, and eschewing, for the most part, the norms of collaboration and outside influence, efficiency, intensity, and laser-guided focus are the names of the game.
