Lewsberg embodies the clandestine spirit of Rotterdam like few bands nowadays do. No frills, no ornaments, instead perched in stoic, dispassionate reflections. With their brittle, fragmented guitar sound – in the vein of The Velvet Underground, Galaxie 500 and Television, – Lewsberg does portray the world better or more beautiful than it is. As paradoxical as it may sound, this actually makes their music so beautiful: the quartet can suck the space in a hermetically-sealed space of unease and creeping tension.
